Totally...

It is 10 a.m. on January 3rd and I am sitting in a lecture hall on the campus of White Oak Conference Center listening to a group of very talented teens play and sing about the how much God loves us. They are totally rockin' and incredible.

As proud as I am of my son who is clicking off the band right now...I am more overwhelmed about the love and goodness of my heavenly Father. 21 1/2 hours ago, that same son called me on my cell phone and told me that he had wrecked his car. He said that he was all right but that the car was probably a total loss.

Two miles from home, I drove to the scene and found him standing beside the car as it rested in some soft weeds in the woods just off the side of the road. He had crawled out of the window. The air bags deployed, the front bumper gone, the rear windshield destroyed, most of the contents of the dashboard laying in the floorboard...and...I could go on.

I could see where he slid off the damp road and into a tree. But how did his car make it across an 8 ft. deep ditch that was about 10 feet across? There was another dead tree in 3 pieces...yet the car was sitting on its wheels and my firstborn was walking around with what appeared to only be a bleeding finger.

The gravity of the situation hit me in two phases. When his mother arrived and saw the car...her reaction to our son reminded me how totally fragile life is. The other was when I arrived at the body shop and walked around what was left of the car and he said, "I thought I might be getting a vehicle to work on." There was not enough left to work at repairing. He was letting me know how blessed we were to have our son still walking around...at all.

Listening to the words of this song is simply too much. Oh, how HE loves us!
